Age Information
At this location the minimum age is 21 for all car groups. A young driver surcharge may apply.
Additional Drivers
All additional drivers must meet the same minimum age and drivers license requirements as the renter. All additional drivers must be present at the start of the rental. If the additional drivers are not present at time of rental pick-up, they must present themselves to an Avis rental location at their earliest convenience to complete the Additional Driver Form. An additional driver fee may apply.
Payment Options
Avis accepted cards include; Visa, MasterCard, American Express and an Avis Charge Card. At the start of your rental, a credit and or a debit card must be presented. Your card must show your name, signature and card number, with applicable logo. The cardholder must be the renter and present when collecting the vehicle.
Avis does not accept, bank cards worded cardholder, nor accepts prepaid or reloadable store value cards, travel money cards and EFTPOS cards. Avis also does not accept cards presented on phones/watches and doesn't allow contactless payment methods such as pay-wave.
At the end of the rental, some Avis locations will accept a prepaid or reloadable stored value card as a final form of payment.
Please Note: Credit card and or debit cards are subject to a card transaction fee of 2.53% for Visa and MasterCard and American Express 3.57% (including GST) at time of pick-up and payment.
Taking your vehicle outside the Country
Vehicles are not permitted to leave New Zealand.

Multi-Island Rentals
Customers travelling between the North and South Islands are permitted to take Avis rental vehicles on the Inter-Island ferries across Cook Strait.
• It is the customer's responsibility to book vehicle and passenger ferry tickets
• A minimum hire period may apply
• Rental can start and finish at any Avis location in NZ (subject to vehicle availability)
We recommend that our customers book the ferry crossing at their earliest convenience to secure the desired crossing date.
One-Way Rentals: outside country
Not applicable. Cars are not allowed outside of New Zealand.
Waiver and Protection Options
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is mandatory and included in the rate. Taxable
New Zealand Excess Reduction (ER) is optional (taxable)
In case of accident or damage, if Excess Reduction (ER) is not purchased the renter will be liable for an amount ranging from NZ $$4,025 to NZ $$5,980 depending on the car group rented. Purchase of Excess Reduction (ER) reduces the renters liability to NZ $633 to $1,151 depending on the car group rented.
Theft Protection (TP) is included with CDW
Corporate Bookings
If you are making a contracted corporate reservation using an Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) or Avis Preferred number, please check your company's rates and insurance coverage before booking. Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance is mandatory on all Avis leisure rentals, but contracted corporate rates and insurance coverages may differ.
Please Note: If you require additional insurance coverage you may purchase locally to reduce/remove the insurance excess. Just ask at the Avis rental desk when you collect your vehicle.
Public Liability Insurance
Coverages for third party property damage up to NZ $350,000.00. Third party injuries are covered by the state insurance organization, ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation). The renter is not liable for third party injuries.
Personal Accident Insurance and Benefits (PAI) (TAXABLE AND OPTIONAL)
Personal Accident Insurance is an optional insurance to renters 21 to 70 years of age.
PAI provides accidental death and capital benefits cover, as a result of an accident, up to a maximum of NZ $75,000.00.
Personal Effects and Baggage Protection - PEB (taxable and optional)
PEB is not available.
Driving License and ID Requirements
The Driver must (i) hold a full and valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle class while they are using the vehicle. (not being a learner’s, provisional or Pink licence) and (ii) have an International Driving Permit (IDP) or official translation (if licence is not in Roman alphabet).
New Zealand issued Pink licences will state the words Limited, Alcohol Interlock or Zero Alcohol Limit on them. Avis will not rent to a Pink licenced customer.
An International Driving Permit is not a stand-alone document and this must be carried with your valid domestic driving licence for it to be valid.
Chinese licences are acceptable as long as they are also accompanied with a full English translation from an approved translator. This also includes a notary translation done in China.
Fuel Charges
To ensure a seamless start to your journey, our vehicles are rented with a full talk of fuel. It would be appreciated if the vehicle was also returned with a full tank, however if this is not possible, a refuelling charge will be applicable. The option of pre-paid fuel is on offer at select locations and the exact rate of the refuelling charge will be available upon vehicle collection.
Special Equipment
Child Safety Seats (CSS)
Avis uses convertible child safety seats that serve as an infant (5-20 pounds/ 2.5-9kg ) restraint in a rear-facing configuration or as a toddler (20-40 pounds/9-18kg) restraint in a forward-facing configuration.
As a service to the customer, all locations must fit/install child seats in the vehicle. The customer must be informed the seat has been fitted, but it is the drivers responsibility to make sure any child travelling in their vehicle is correctly secured. They must check the installation of the seat(s) prior to their travel.
Booster Seats (CBS)
Select Avis locations offer booster seats for youngsters 40-80 pounds/18-36kilograms. Seats can vary in model and style, so please contact the rental location in advance if you have specific questions.
As a service to the customer, all locations must fit/install booster seats in the vehicle. The customer must be informed the seat has been fitted, but it is the drivers responsibility to make sure any child travelling in their vehicle is correctly secured. They must check the installation of the seat(s) prior to their travel. GPS Units
Portable GPS units are no longer available for rent in New Zealand.
Where2 GPS Units
Portable GPS units are available at most rental locations in New Zealand.
Availability of these units can be checked in the Counter Products screen, and can be hired in conjunction with any car group rented.
One-way rentals are permitted between all locations with no additional one-way fee. One-way charges for the vehicle will still apply.
Ski Racks (SKR) / Snow Chains (SNC) / Snow Board Racks (SBR)
Winter equipment is available from most South Island locations. Please state the number of pairs or skis/snowboards on the reservation. Ski Racks are not available on sub Compact, Electric Sedan or Intermediate, Full Size Sedan, Hybrid Hatch, Hybrid Sedan, Compact SUV, Premium Ute or Signature Series vehicles. Snow chains are not available on Sub Compact, Electric Sedan or Intermediate or Signature Series vehicles. We hold your request with your reservation but cannot guarantee availability until rental pickup.
Miscellaneous
Chauffeur Drive - Not available.
Rule of the Road - Drive on the LEFT.
Roadside Assistance (RSN) / Roadside Assistance Plus (RSP)
Emergency Road Service as provided as part of standard rental and covers mechanical breakdown (i.e. where the vehicle develops a problem through no fault of the renter). Non-mechanical issues that are caused or contributed to by the renter will result in the renter being charged a callout fee (approx. NZ $75.00 - $150.00) and the costs of fixing the issue.
‘Roadside Assistance’ is an optional product that provides cover for these costs for a daily charge. This offers fast, dependable rescue service for our renters and provides roadside assistance for lost keys and remote entry device lockouts, flat tire service, towing (if the vehicle is inoperable), jump starts and emergency fuel delivery (up to NZ $20.00 fuel delivery).
‘Roadside Assistance Plus’ offers the same cover as above with the added benefit of one free front and or rear windscreen replacement due to stone chips, been cracked or shattered.
